Dr. Douglas Krebs is now Titleist Performance Institute Medical 2 Certified.

Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) is the world's leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions concerning the golf swing.

TPI’s Medical 2 course is designed to give the healthcare provider all the information and tools needed to navigate the complex world of golf-specific injuries and golf-specific rehabilitation.

The course focuses on improving the provider’s diagnostic skills by introducing the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). The SFMA is intended to pinpoint the exact cause of a player’s musculoskeletal dysfunction and differentiates between mobility and stability problems. Once the diagnosis is made, the course shifts into injury rehabilitation and proper motor control restoration with the SFMA 4X4 Matrix.

Additionally, the course dives into the world of injury-inducing golf swing mechanics. Dr. Greg Rose covers the most common swing mechanics that lead to injury or inhibit injury recovery.

We are Open

Over the past few weeks, we have slowly started to open our office. The health and well-being of our patients and staff continue to be of high importance; therefore, we have increased our already stringent standard precautions. We will continue to follow the guidelines provided by the CDC and IDPH to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. Please consider what you do outside of the office and continue to practice safe social distancing.

We are now offering in-person visits in addition to Telemedicine visits and will work with you to schedule the type of appointment that works best for you.

Patients with an in-person appointment can expect to see the following measures to maximize the safety of our staff, patients, and providers:

  • All staff and providers will be wearing masks and gloves.

  • All patients will be required to wear masks.

  • We have reduced our appointment volume to allow for social distancing and safety for all.

  • We will thoroughly clean the exam room between each visit.

  • We have coated all of our high touch surfaces with MicrobeCare, which is an EPA registered antimicrobial solution.

  • All surfaces throughout the practice will be cleaned hourly or more often if needed with a medical-grade disinfectant.

  • We will be screening patients one day before appointments for any at-risk histories or symptoms.

  • All patients who enter the practice will have their temperature taken upon arrival to confirm compliance with these standards.

  • All staff will have their temperature taken upon arrival and periodically throughout the day.

  • We have marked appropriate distances on our floors throughout the practice. Please respect and abide by these markers.

  • Hand sanitizer stations will continue to be located throughout the office.

  • Wait times before appointments will be eliminated or minimized. The waiting room will be cleaned in between any waiting patients.

  • Intake, scheduling, and check out will be performed in a manner to encourage social distancing or via phone call after visit.

  • We will be deep cleaning the practice every day.

  • We are asking our patients to please follow these precautions for their visit:

1) Prior to each visit, we will ask you.

  • Have you had a body temperature over 100 degrees Fahrenheit or have you used a fever reducer in the previous 24 hours to treat a body temperature above 100 degrees Fahrenheit?

  • Do you have a new cough that you cannot attribute to another health condition?

  • Do you have a new or worsening sore throat that you cannot attribute to another health condition?

  • Do you have new shortness of breath that you cannot attribute to another health condition?

  • Have you recently developed a complete loss of smell or taste?

2) Please come to your appointment alone. A parent or legal guardian of a minor patient will be allowed with prior notice. If you need assistance from a caregiver, please let us know so that we can make the proper accommodations.

3) Please arrive at your appointment on time. We must allow adequate time between patients to sanitize the exam rooms. If you are more than a few minutes late, we may need to reschedule your appointment.

4) Maintain a safe distance. Please ensure you are maintaining a safe distance of six feet from all patients and staff while in the office except while undergoing certain treatments.

5) Fill out any required questionnaires ahead of time. Our staff will be requesting surveys and any required documents before your visit. We will email you before your visit alerting you what needs to be updated. We will not allow patients to be seen if the questionnaires are not completed, and will be rescheduling any appointments if we do not receive the necessary updates in advance. This step will minimize the amount of contact you have with our staff and the amount of time you are in the office overall.

6) Make sure you have a current credit card on file. We will only be charging the credit cards on file for these visits if a balance is due. We will NOT be accepting Cash or Checks. With a card on file, we do not need your card in hand. It will make co-pays and fee-for-service visits hands-free. (If you are unable to provide a credit card we ask that payment is made before each visit, we can accommodate Square Invoices, PayPal, etc.)

We may need to shift your appointment time by 10 or 20 min to adjust our schedule to minimize the patient volume and optimize safety. Please check your appointment time in the confirmation email/text.

We are asking all patients to comply with the above requests for the safety of all and to minimize the time in the practice. Our goal is to get every patient into their exam room straight upon arriving and immediately out the door after their visit. We must have each patient's support by following the above guidelines to accomplish this as safely as possible.

We are excited to see everyone's faces again, well, with masks on.

With much gratitude,

Chicago Spine and Sports

TeleHealth and Temporary Closure of Chicago Spine and Sports

Out of an abundance of caution and concern, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close Chicago Spine and Sports starting tomorrow, March 23rd through April 7th, reopening on April 8th, or longer if needed. We care too much about the health of our patients, staff, and community to increase the risk of the "community spread" of COVID-19. Having spoken to peers across our local and national medical communities about the severity of this issue, we feel a sense of solidarity.

Katherine will be answering phone calls and emails, as she works from home between 9 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday. She can be reached at 773.529.0057 or katherine@chicagospineandsports.com. We are in the process of moving to a virtual phone system, and we have a temporary call back number of 909.490.5598. So if you see a call or text from this number, it is us.

We believe that we have contacted all patients that were scheduled during our closure. If you have not heard from us, please reach out to us so that we may reschedule your appointment.

TeleHealth Visits

To continue delivering quality patient care, Chicago Spine and Sports has begun to implement TeleHealth (Virtual Visits). You can call or click online to schedule appointments.

Through TeleHealth, we can virtually connect one-on-one with patients to perform evaluations via video assessments and provide patient education. We can also teach self-care exercises and guide you through exercises as we would in office.

At this time, many insurance companies are waiving Co-Pays and Co-insurance for TeleHealth Visit.

At Chicago Spine and Sports, we are the only clinic in Chicago where all three doctors are credentialed in the McKenzie Method, also known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT). MDT is highly evidence-based and the industry leader in promoting self-treatment and self-efficacy while educating patients on how they can manage their own pain through specific, customized exercises. With TeleHealth, we can effectively assess a patient's particular injury in the comfort of their own home, guiding them through ways to fix their pain within a short period of time.

We encourage you to take advantage of these TeleHealth visits as they are an effective way for you to manage your musculoskeletal symptoms. TeleHealth visits are also a safe alternative to Emergency Rooms, Urgent Care, or Primary Care facilities during this time as they are already overburdened, and this can place you or someone else at undue risk.

As chiropractors and business owners in Chicago, we ask that everyone wash your hands for 20 seconds, practice social distancing of at least 6 feet and stay at home. We also want to thank all of the doctors, nurses, hospital staff, and first responders who are on the front lines to help our city during this challenging period. Together we will all get through this.

Please stay tuned for further updates from us as this situation evolves. You can follow us on social media by clicking the links below for updates and some fun tips.

We are grateful that you put your lives in our hands and will do everything to support you and our staff through this time.

Sincerely,

All of us at Chicago Spine and Sports

McKenzie Method in the News

Did you know that all three of the Chiropractors at Chicago Spine and Sports are certified in the McKenzie Method of diagnosis and treatment?

The McKenzie Method (also known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT)) is a classification system that was pioneered by a New Zealand Physiotherapist named Robin McKenzie in the 1950s. MDT history focuses on understanding how the patient’s symptoms respond to activities and the examination focuses on a patient’s symptom response to repetitive loading of the joint/tissue.

This examination allows us to classify the condition into treatment groups that will enable us to direct the patient in ways that they can take control of their condition and often quickly resolve their condition.
