TeleHealth and Temporary Closure of Chicago Spine and Sports

Out of an abundance of caution and concern, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close Chicago Spine and Sports starting tomorrow, March 23rd through April 7th, reopening on April 8th, or longer if needed. We care too much about the health of our patients, staff, and community to increase the risk of the "community spread" of COVID-19. Having spoken to peers across our local and national medical communities about the severity of this issue, we feel a sense of solidarity.

Katherine will be answering phone calls and emails, as she works from home between 9 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday. She can be reached at 773.529.0057 or katherine@chicagospineandsports.com. We are in the process of moving to a virtual phone system, and we have a temporary call back number of 909.490.5598. So if you see a call or text from this number, it is us.

We believe that we have contacted all patients that were scheduled during our closure. If you have not heard from us, please reach out to us so that we may reschedule your appointment.

TeleHealth Visits

To continue delivering quality patient care, Chicago Spine and Sports has begun to implement TeleHealth (Virtual Visits). You can call or click online to schedule appointments.

Through TeleHealth, we can virtually connect one-on-one with patients to perform evaluations via video assessments and provide patient education. We can also teach self-care exercises and guide you through exercises as we would in office.

At this time, many insurance companies are waiving Co-Pays and Co-insurance for TeleHealth Visit.

At Chicago Spine and Sports, we are the only clinic in Chicago where all three doctors are credentialed in the McKenzie Method, also known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT). MDT is highly evidence-based and the industry leader in promoting self-treatment and self-efficacy while educating patients on how they can manage their own pain through specific, customized exercises. With TeleHealth, we can effectively assess a patient's particular injury in the comfort of their own home, guiding them through ways to fix their pain within a short period of time.

We encourage you to take advantage of these TeleHealth visits as they are an effective way for you to manage your musculoskeletal symptoms. TeleHealth visits are also a safe alternative to Emergency Rooms, Urgent Care, or Primary Care facilities during this time as they are already overburdened, and this can place you or someone else at undue risk.

As chiropractors and business owners in Chicago, we ask that everyone wash your hands for 20 seconds, practice social distancing of at least 6 feet and stay at home. We also want to thank all of the doctors, nurses, hospital staff, and first responders who are on the front lines to help our city during this challenging period. Together we will all get through this.

Please stay tuned for further updates from us as this situation evolves. You can follow us on social media by clicking the links below for updates and some fun tips.

We are grateful that you put your lives in our hands and will do everything to support you and our staff through this time.

Sincerely,

All of us at Chicago Spine and Sports

On December 5, 2010, Dr. Krebs of Chicago Spine + Sports successfully passed the credentialing exam for McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy.  He is one of the first 65 doctors to complete the course work and pass this exam.  McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) is a systematic approach to the diagnosis and treatment of spinal related conditions.  Research has shown the initial McKenzie assessment procedures to be as reliable as costly diagnostic imaging (i.e., x-rays, MRIs) to determine the source of the problem and quickly identify responders and non-responders.  Unique to the McKenzie Method is a comprehensive and logical step-by-step process to evaluate the patient's problem quickly. This mechanical examination can "classify" most patient conditions by the level of pain or limitation that results from certain movements or positions. A McKenzie assessment can eliminate the need for expensive and/or invasive procedures. McKenzie treatment prescribes a series of individualized exercises. The emphasis is on active patient involvement, which minimizes the number of visits to the clinic.

Ultimately, most patients can successfully treat themselves when provided the necessary knowledge and tools. For patients with more difficult mechanical problems a hands-on approach is needed. By learning how to self-treat the current problem, patients gain hands-on knowledge on how to minimize the risk of recurrence and to rapidly deal with recurrence if it occurs. The likelihood of problems persisting can more likely be prevented through self-maintenance.
